AFTA Council Meets with the General Workers’ Union
Earlier this week, the AFTA Council held a constructive meeting with the General Workers’ Union, led by Secretary General Mr Josef Bugeja, to discuss pressing issues affecting the temping and outsourcing industry.
A central topic of discussion was the recently published consultation document on Malta’s Labour Migration Policy. While AFTA recognises the importance of strengthening regulations to combat exploitation, the Council expressed concern over certain recommendations that may unintentionally hinder the operations of legitimate businesses.
Of particular concern are proposals that could result in de facto caps on industry growth. AFTA firmly opposes any such measures, emphasising that responsible regulation should support—not stifle—economic development and fair employment practices.
Both AFTA and the General Workers’ Union reaffirmed their shared commitment to ongoing collaboration. Together, they aim to raise employment standards across the sector, ensuring fair treatment for workers and sustainable growth for all stakeholders.
Stay tuned for further updates as we continue working towards a balanced and equitable future for the industry.
